Architects by training, their artistic process begins by studying territories in order to then analyse their historic, political, aesthetic and emotional implications. MACBA
Paola Yacoub and Michel Lasserre began collaborating in 2000. They made notations of aspect variations of territories in conflict and post-conflict situations before working on the perception of territories immersed in information flows. They are currently working on the characteristics of actions in the framework of ExtendedActionism. They have exhibited together in, amongst others, Kunst-Werke, Berlin (2000); Fundació Antoni Tàpies, Barcelona, Spain (2002); Le Plateau, Paris (2002); Witte de With, Rotterdam (2003); Venice Biennal (2003); Busan Biennal (2004); Centre pour l’Image Contemporaine/Mamco Genève (2004); Gwangju Biennal (2006); Xiangning Art Museum, Shenzhen, China (2008). They have given lecture performances, amongst others, at the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2006); Travelling Féministe, Paris (2013); La Colonie, Paris (2019). Their texts were brought together in the monograph Beirut is a Magnificent City. Synoptic Pictures (Fundació Antoni Tàpies, 2003). Yacoub and Lasserre have been awarded several residencies, including the DAAD in Berlin in 2005. PaolaYacoub monographic exhibitions include Drawing with the things themselves at the Beirut Art Center (2011), and kiss the black stones at Haus der Kulturen der Welt Berlin (2012). She is the founding director of the program ARP Artistic Research Practices, (2013 – 2018), at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts (ALBA), in collaboration with the Sursock museum.
